How we make money on recommendations

TOOLA may earn a commission when you purchase through eligible links. This does not affect the price you pay or influence our recommendations.

This disclosure appears on every guide that contains shopping recommendations, and it appears before the recommendations rather than buried at the bottom of the page.

An affiliate link is a tracked link to a retailer. If you click one and buy something, the retailer may pay us a small commission. You pay the same price you would pay going to that retailer directly, and we never add a fee.

TOOLA intends to participate in retailer affiliate programs including major home improvement and tool retailers. Where a link is not yet live, we say so on the page rather than substituting an unrelated link.

Every recommendation is evaluated against four criteria, in this order:

• Usefulness — will a homeowner actually reach for this within the first year of owning it?
• Compatibility — does it fit the repair, the material, the fastener, or the fixture we are describing?
• Safety — is it the right tool for the job, and have we stated the hazards and protective equipment involved?
• Value — is it worth the money at the typical price, including against renting or hiring the job out?

Commission rate is not one of the criteria. We do not accept payment for placement, we do not let a retailer choose which products appear, and we recommend generic tool categories rather than brands where the brand does not meaningfully matter.

• Claim to be an official partner, reseller, or authorized dealer of any retailer.
• Display retailer or manufacturer logos without written permission.
• Invent affiliate URLs, discount codes, or retailer relationships.
• Publish review scores or test results for products we have not evaluated.
• Recommend a purchase where the honest answer is renting the tool, borrowing it, or hiring a licensed professional.

Prices shown are typical United States ranges at the time of writing and change frequently. The retailer's page is always the authority on current price, stock, specifications, and returns.
