How our guides get written
Original content, contractor review, stated limits, and visible corrections.
Original content only
Every guide on this site is written for this site. We do not republish manufacturer copy, syndicate content, or spin existing articles. Where a guide draws on a manufacturer instruction, a code requirement, or published safety guidance, we describe what it says and tell the reader to check their own equipment's documentation.
Who writes and reviews
Guides are written and reviewed by Nathaniel Godol, a licensed contractor operating a home-services business, and are based on work performed on real homes. Every guide carries an author name, role, and a last-updated date.
AI tools may be used to draft structure or check clarity. No guide is published without a human contractor reading it end to end and taking responsibility for its accuracy.
Safety comes before completeness
Where a task involves electrical work behind the panel, gas, structural elements, roof work, or anything requiring a permit or a licensed trade, we say so and stop. We would rather publish a guide that ends in “call a licensed professional” than one that walks a reader into a hazard.
Guides state required personal protective equipment, shut-off steps, and verification steps where they apply. See our safety standards.
Independence from commercial relationships
Recommendations are chosen on usefulness, compatibility, safety, and value. No retailer, manufacturer, or advertiser reviews our content before publication, selects products, or pays for placement. Commission rates play no part in what we recommend or how we rank it. Our affiliate disclosure sets this out in full.
Claims and numbers
We publish cost ranges as ranges, and we label them as typical United States figures that vary by region, season, and job specifics. We do not publish download counts, star ratings, user totals, or aggregate savings figures we cannot verify. If a number appears on this site, we can say where it came from.
Updates and corrections
Guides are reviewed at least annually and updated sooner when prices, products, or guidance change materially. The updated date on each guide reflects the last substantive revision, not a cosmetic edit.
To report an error, write to support@usetoola.com. We aim to acknowledge corrections within two business days and will fix or retract anything we cannot stand behind.
